Workshop: Sketching Worlds in 360

Bring worlds of your imagination to life by sketching them out on 360 spherical panoramas! Use a digital or analog workflows to explore drawing on a equirectangular grid. Participants will visit each other's immersive images through standard web apps or VR devices (including cardboard).

This workshop will start your journey in learning how to create 360 degree panoramic sketches using whatever drawing medium that you like.
Plan on having whatever option you chose ready to use at the start of the workshop.

Workshop Options:

  1. Paper Equirectangular Grid + digital camera or your mobile phone
  2. Any drawing app that supports layers (like Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Fresco, Paint.net, ProCreate, etc)
  3. The Sketch 360 app that I built
We will cover:
  • Understanding the equirectangular projection
  • Metadata workflow
  • Viewing & sharing sketches
  • 360 sketch videos
  • We will have ample time to construct and iterate on our 360 sketches with a hands-on (via Zoom desktop sharing) workshop
