As a curator, writer, scholar, and educator, Vanessa Chang builds communities and conversations about art, technology, and human bodies. She holds a Ph.D. in Modern Thought & Literature from Stanford University, and teaches in the Visual & Critical Studies program at California College of the Arts. She curates exhibitions and events at the intersection of art, science, and technology, including the critically lauded Recoding CripTech at SOMArts Cultural Center, the CODAME Art + Tech Festival (Artobots, 2018, Space, 2019), and Intersections at the Leonardo Convening at Fort Mason Center for the Art in San Francisco. She is currently lead investigator for The Grid: Connecting Artists and Technologists. Her writing has been published in Wired, Slate, Los Angeles Review of Books, Journal of Visual Culture, among other venues. She's regularly interviewed in media outlets such as NPR's On the Media and State of the Art.
